Circle Skill and variants

American, British, French or German? We want to know about it.

Having compared it more closely with the Circle Skill Cigarette, I now think it's the coin payout version of that machine - presumably by Coin Operating Company of Birmingham. The unusual payout knob looks identical as does the knob which turns the wheel.
Well I'm flip-flopping like a Liberal Democrat on this question. Having just read this flyer, I see the Circle Coin-Repeat was "made by the famous Saxony Factory" (i.e. Jentzsch & Meerz), so it would appear the Profit Sharer version is the Birmingham-made (and presumably earlier?) one.

I suspect, as with their allwins, strict pre-war German gaming regulations meant they could only be made for and exported to Britain.

Hi Brendan and welcome.
Follow the link below where, if you go through the pages, you will see many similar machines - a "Circle Skill" machine from around the 1930s. I am sure others will add more info or answer any further questions,

Clean looking machine. What's the link that makes you believe it was operated at Luna Park Melb? I've been offered at least 15 machines over the years that all were said to come from Luna Park Sydney or Melb. But never a scrap of proof from any of the sellers when I queried them on that. If anything, that usually put me off wanting to buy rather than getting me more excited like they thought it would! Chances are good that I probably have owned a machine or two that did come from either site at some time or another but no way of ever knowing sadly. !PUZZLED!

CIRCLE SKILL

Post by scottie »

Topic moved & merged - Site Admin.

Hello
I have a lead on this machine and I was wondering if anyone had any information on it.
I know it's German and made by Jentzsch & Merrz around 1928....
The picture I was sent looks like it's out of a book... (no real pictures of the machine yet).
Any information would be great.
Thank you.

I guess I posted a little too soon.
I am not at home so I have the use of high speed on the computer. !!YABBADABBA!!
After I posted I starting reading all the posts on this machine.
Looks like there were different models over the years.
I'm also thinking it not a rare as I was told it was????
The one at the auction sold for 580 pounds... hard to say at this point what the one I have a lead on is worth because I haven't seen any pictures of it yet or even if it works.

One of the flyers recently sold on ebay caught my eye for this image of a Quested Automatics Skill Win - clearly a very early, and quite pretty version of the Circle Skill game.

And this metal-cased Winasmoke currently on ebay US is clearly a Firman product. See four metal Firman wall machines.

This red-painted machine from the John Morley sale is identical to several of the coin-payout versions featured earlier in this thread, with one difference - it has only three win cups, where they have four. The middle cup is on a separate plate, suggesting a modification to reduce the player's chances. Three cups is standard for cigarette payout Circle Skills.

From another thread, a very early (Circa 1919) variant, Handan-Ni's Mystic Wheel:

And another German variety called Indra:

Can anyone identify this please?

Post by atticbrowser »

Firstly, thank you for a fascinating web-site. I have a small collection of coin operated machines assembled over the years. Can anyone please identify this machine that says 'Made in Saxony.' It gives out small boxed prizes, which I have removed as they tend to be torn up by the machine when dispensed. I've used the search facility but only come up with 'Saxony Allwins' which don't appear to be the same. Thank you very much for any comments.

Thank you all. Your identification of it as a Circle Skill and the links you provided took me to the very version of the machine I have! Much appreciated.

Following my first ever post recently, Badpenny asked...’What interests can you share with us?’
I think the most pertinent one is that I am a stereoscopic photographer and have always had an interest in coin operated stereoscopic viewing machines. I have about 4 of them in various conditions and once wrote an article for a stereo photography collectors magazine on them. Presumably if I want to post something about this I’d be better creating a new thread?
