Jack Rundle sale at Cheffins

Post by pennymachines »

Cheffins are auctioning some of Jack Rundle's collection: Catalogue Sale 1, Catalogue Sale 2 on 2nd of June 2018. Only one or two slots, including this odd-looking scale. Anyone know anything about it?

Looks like an "I speak your weight". I guess the restoration would not be easy.

Last time I saw one of those ‘speak your weight machines’ the wife stood on it and it announced ‘only one person at a time please’.

I've never seen a Speak Your Weight like it, so I'm guessing it's just a card vending scale.

I strangely went to view stuff at this auction, not for the scales. Speaking to a collector recently, the scales are apparently German from origin and do not talk to you. They were in terrible condition.

Do you know what it sold for, and the R&W two player Hockey?
The catalogue is no longer online.

Sorry no. I did not think it was R&W though and, looking at the pictures I took, it was Cromptons.... From memory the hockey was around 220 and the pintable slightly more. Think the scales went for about 80 quid.

Thanks. !THUMBS! I'd forgotten about the Bally Prospector pintable - best of the bunch by the look of it.

I once went to look at a speak your weight machine in the 80s.
Sadly when I tried it I only heard half the message before it jerked missing off the middle sentence.

Watching it closely I estimated the needle had jumped about 3 grooves, I wondered if it was the record.

But, no, apparently the record was held by a Dutch weegtoestel on Trein platform aantal 4 at Utrecht Centraal. It was claimed to have jumped 7 grooves in 1966 when the Amsterdam express thundered through. !THUMBS!
