I think these must be Oliver Whales. The floor-stander was at Arreton Barns, Isle of Wight with other love-test type doors in it. The other one sold at Southern Counties Auction, 2005.

The four sided fortune teller was made by Hawtins and spent many years in my arcade and I sold it at one of the Huntingdon auctions that then went to Anna Carters arcade then to a dealer and then Arreton Barns on Isle of Wight and I believe it sold a few years ago but do not know to who. I hope that helps.

PM I certainly never thought these had anything to do with Whales due to that artwork being so different than anything else of theirs I remember seeing.

Agreed, but the artwork doesn't resemble anything else Hawtin produced either, as far as I can see, so I was struggling to think of a possible candidate. I'd have not guessed Hawtin. It's not in the Hawtin catalogue, nor Braithwaite's book, but presumably they put their badge on the one Mr Merrivale owned.

The machine owned by harvez has quite an interesting case. The decorative wood sides have a decided Art Deco feel to them. Right up your alley, Gameswat.

I hadn't looked that closely JP. Harvez cabinet is unusually made of pine. Would be helpful to see the mechanism as that may well point to the maker.

I suspect it was originally a painted case.

I seem to remember that the switch wheel in the Glamour Girl machine is the same as the one in the Bradfort Super Love Tester, maybe it could be made by them ?? !!IDEA!! or not.. :!?!:

Well done Stuart, I agree. I saw this topic earlier today but didn't have a chance to reply. The mechanism in the Glamour Girl machines, of which there are several different themes, is identical to those in the Bradfort machines. This is supported by the 'four-square' case, which is identical to an empty case I have that I know once housed four Bradfort machines.

P.S. it seems pretty clear to me that the pine case of the machine that is the subject of this thread is not original - doesn't make it a bad buy, congrats to the winning ebay bidder. If the machine hadn't been located in Blackpool, I should have liked it myself. But the case ain't original.
