Reeman Dansie auction - Snappy fortune teller

Post by daveslot »

There were a few machines here on the 4th that made good prices. There was a version of one I had not seen before. I wondered if it was original or a conversion.

Looks like a conversion of a Bradfort Love Test to me. Here's a photo of one I had with what would probably been the original top part of my machine which had been converted to a single coin entry in the bottom half of the machine.

I think is probably based on the Bradfort Oracle.

Agreed...

but it may just be a later version we haven't seen before. Interesting to compare with the recently discussed Glamour Girl wall machine which Slotalot and JC believe is also Bradfort - both having paper printed glamour girl graphics. On the other hand... the aperture showing the questions cuts into the image as if it wasn't purpose designed.

On balance, I think the artwork is probably an operator replacement, because the originals were screen printed on glass, so vulnerable to breaking.

I did go and view in advance being local all the machines. This one the artwork looked old certainly and not a sticker, but either painted or screen printed.....one thing though areas on it looked to have been applied at a later point as a variation in background colour you can just see in the picture on the main area and snappy text.

Was surprised how much all the machines sold for to be honest and wonder if buyers had viewed as there of course were issues with damaged to cases, odd bits on the allwins etc. The Extraordinary had old damage to the top very common and the hood. Also was a console machine and still had the extended handle and shaved wood base......seems a lot of doe without the case....

Fortune teller £570
Hawtins £645
Bryan’s Bullion £768
Bryan’s 10 win £768
Rotopool (untested) £360
Mills Extraordinary £843

Looks like my previous posting suggesting its Love Test origins was a bit premature, as I had never seen an Oracle. It certainly does have the look of a Bradfort machine.

Thanks for all the info TF. Was the back door missing too on the Extraordinary machine?

Yes, I would agree those Extraordinarys are particularly prone to casting damage. A freshly repainted, restored machine could be hiding all sorts of casting repairs.

If you are buying one, best to inspect as much as you can, then repeat, 'til happy.

Just noticed there was an Oracle in the last EH sale and another from 2016 which has suffered the damage to its glass which these were so prone to.

Seeing them side by side it's clear they're the same machine. I guess the damaged screen print has been replaced with clear glass over a card reproduction of the graphics.
