A Challenge...

Post by pennymachines »

Can any of you bandit heads throw light on the story behind this "ALL BRITISH MANUFACTURED" machine?
I've not heard of C.O.I.N. Ltd of 58 York Road Battersea, S.W. 11 and until closer inspection thought it might be one of the many British/German revamps.

Funny I was going to post myself this from the Chippenham sale.....have seen them before and last one sold for £200 at the Elephant in 2016.....interestingly the seller indicated a different maker “modernmatics” also making cash registers.... also confirmed standard 20 stopper, which is what I had assumed and remembered....I reckon a take on the Sega Monaco.
very funky retro design, made by Modernmatics with a Mills mechanism, on old penny play with keys. The company also made cash registers, which probably explains the rather pleasing shape of the cabinet, which is also practical being front-opening

Found a little more, Modernmatics was created by Coin to build machines and went into receivership in 1967......obviously not a successful venture lasting only 5 years and we see few today...
