Picking locks
Picking locks
My daughter inadvertently locked herself out of the house a few weeks ago so my son in law bought a lock picking set in case it happened again and as he is an engineer is now very interested in how all locks work. I have a Saxony allwin that had a 'locked' lock, so asked him to pick it for me - to my surprise he opened it in 25 seconds, good news - now the bad news, he went on to pick our house lock in 90 seconds ! He said that the majority of eurolocks are very easy to pick, but are even easier to snap off !!
New high security locks all round on our house now.

Re: Locks
Most allwin style locks are quite easy to pick but some are not, bandits harder and I can't get the hang of barrel locks at all. These practice boards that feature four different style of lock with the locks cut away at the rear so you can see what happens inside as you try to pick the lock are very helpful. Transparent locks are also available.
Re: Picking locks
New to here but if you have any lock problems let me know as I have been a locksmith since I learnt my craft 35 years ago.

Re: Picking locks
Your lock expertise would be VERY useful to members on the forum. Can you make keys for locks without the original key (something we often need but can't get)?

Re: Picking locks
Oh how I could have needed help yesterday, had to drill out a Zeiss lock on a Beromat..... My god these things are tough, after breaking 3 drill bits, finally got through... I gave no thought on even attempting to pick the lock.
