Different machine to John's which is an antique. (He did a stunning job on that resto!) I've seen a few of these later barrels machines and they look 30s or 40s to me.

I got this last week, it came from America. It's a Philip Shefras Barrel Win a Cig game.

Nice find!
Originally a coin in the centre barrel released a cigar (later a cigarette) while the two "lose" barrels returned the coin (all coins missing the barrels going to the cash box). You can see the large holes where the coin cup used to be mounted behind the "Win-a-Cig" card frame.
Nic Costa calls this game Three Barrels and attributes it to Vincent Haydon, circa 1920. Maybe Philip Shefras just put a distributor badge on it?

Many thanks for the information.
I have had a look at your pictures and I'll probably change the "Win a Cig" sign for a coin cup.
Many thanks !SMARTY!

Nice to see the mechanism for this one. A lot better quality machine than it would appear from the outside. The seller had this listed on and off for a long time. Did he finally come down or did you go up?

Hello,
Just after Christmas he sold it for $800 but the shipping from west coast America was expensive.

Old coin automat to win cigarettes

Hello
I bought this machine in Germany, which pays out cigarettes when the coin is inserted into the middle barrel. I think it comes from England. Does anyone know this device? Manufacturer and year of manufacture?

Nice find, a Three Barrels machine.

See [above]* thread discussing many examples of this machine, suggested to be made by Hayden.

Yes, I re-read that post where I said Nic Costa attributed it to Vincent Haydon but, as Gameswat said, it looks '30s - '40s. Haydon and Urry's Game of Barrels was introduced in 1898, had four barrels (which were cast from different moulds than the later game) and, of course, a much earlier style of hardwood cabinet. Evidently the game, like many others, was copied, but on reflection, it's clearly much too late to have been built by Haydon. The Philip Shefras badge is prominently displayed on more than one, so I'm happy to go with that until someone has a better idea.
