Could anyone identify this bandit?

Post by bigcraigy »

Hi people
Wondering if anyone on here could identify and give any information on this machine that has been in my girlfriends grandparents garage for years, here’s what I’ve been told about it so far. Her dad and his brothers remember it from when they were children they’re in to their 50s now. It still works but with UK pre-decimal coins.
I had a look around it I couldn’t see any manufacturers names on it, there was a key to open the back of it and it’s seems solely mechanically operated with no electrics.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It’s a Sega. Probably looked originally like this before the paint job. It’s probably lost its jackpot along the way.

It's probably a Sega clone rather than a true Sega.
There were a few back street Companies knocking them out at the time around Europe. You'll notice a lack of casting details, words, names etc.
Interesting you say It still works but with UK pre-decimal coins which the coin entry would confirm, yet the grotty looking denominator says 1 N.P.
The mech looks quite clean, some of the springs would benefit from replacing or even refitting. However without more detailed photos it's hard to say anything more.
Other than, it probably never had a Jack Pot and the escalator is an after market Shefras roll down type.
It has a back door and bonnet, which is fortunate because if it is a clone then Sega or Mills case parts rarely fit.

Thanks for a quick reply. Are they fairly common then? The house is being cleared for sale so a decision is needed on what to do with it. I think it is too interesting of a thing to be just thrown away. Do they hold much value, if so where is the best place to sell one? Apparently it went on eBay a few years back but was removed a couple of times!!

I thought 1NP stood for new pence but i’m told it uses old coins but again i’ve never used it or seen it used. The garage was a bit dark to get a good photo of the insides. Can this one be saved or would it be used to save others??

I guess it would make an excellent entry machine for someone starting in the hobby.
Coming up with a value is always the difficult bit, complicated, basically Bay will remove it, the details why are The Gambling Commission of GB require you to buy a one off licence (£25)
It really depends on how much effort you're prepared to undertake.
Shoving it in a real auction like a house clearance would be easier. However you don't know how well they publicise their sales.

There are specialist slot auctions in the Midlands if you want to attend with it.
There is a Slot sales day this coming Sunday in Derby Click Here for details Where it could be sold for you, but you might be on The Isle of Wight or it's your Mother-in-Laws passing out parade this weekend??????
If you wanted to advertise it on this site "Market" you could, the link is here …. except it seems broken at the moment.

Watch this space.
