Yes it's the same company.
It seems about 1906 a Yale law student from Detroit named Cameron Waterman invented the first petrol powered outboard motor.
He asked the Caille Brothers, manufacturers of slot-machines, to build the first 25.

It seems history doesn't record the details of the contract between Waterman and Caille. However I think it's safe to assume Cameron Waterman wasn't studying Commercial Law. The first 25 engines sold out straight away, and Caille immediately went into mass production without Mr. Waterman. "Mr. What did you say? .... Sorry never heard of him"
Although this was the first petrol powered outboard motor, many others immediately jumped on the wagon (or is that boat?) very quickly. within a couple of years or so an immigrant from Sweden Ole Evinrude emerged and two brothers named Johnson got in on the act.

There are different versions surrounding what happened, however there is evidence that Caille merged their engines with Johnson and shortly after Johnson joined Evinrude. Seems it all went bust around 2000, but Caille were involved in one way or another with outboard manufacturing way after they gave up on slots.

The design did not change for a long time, they look just like the beloved British Seagull version. I still have one.....

Good old Wikipedia suggest another name as first outboard under the Johnson camp.
