Bryan clock not working

Post by alan57 »

Today my Bryan's clock developed a fault. Before when the coin was inserted and the key turned to crank the machine, the hands would generally rotate smoothly several times with the ticking noise as it should be.

Now, when the key is turned to crank the machine, the hands move only half way around the clock, there is no ticking noise and the mechanism seems to jam very quickly. In the attached picture, I've noticed the part in the circled area moves very quickly, causing the clock not to tick and for the hands to suddenly stop.

Has this problem happened before to anyone, and if so, how can I fix it please?

Check the nut holding the pivot timing bar has not come loose. It needs to be adjusted to allow enough clearance for the ratchet arm to move through while rocking the timing bar. If loose the arm will skip through quickly

Hi Tom, thanks for the reply and advice. The nut is ok, I adjusted the screw and nut and moved the spring slightly see picture, I assume this is something to do with the brake. The problem seems to be sorted.

Ive never had to adjust anything on the clock before, usually adjustment screws or nuts are usually in red on my other Bryan's machines, there's none on the clock.

Someone has poorly sprayed over the original paint though so maybe the red parts are hidden?

Here is a picture of my mechanism. Zoom in and you will see the red bits.

Thanks Paul, most helpful. Apart from the brake adjustment screw, what do the other two adjustment nuts actually do?

I believe these are something to do with the tension for the payout lever. I may be wrong and maybe one of our more learned colleagues on the forum can advise.
