Decorative edge trim for an Exacta
Decorative edge trim for an Exacta
I am attempting to make a new case for a Wulff Exacta I have. What I need is the trim that is round the edge of the case at the front. I will need a "J" shaped profile and gold colour. I haven't found anything that looks like what I want, or a search term to look for. I got a bag of sample colours from Harold English some years back so I know it is out there but he didn't say where he could get it. Can anyone help?

Don't know where to get any, but I've got exactly the same trim on my 1960s coffee table.

Did you get that buy-it-now one on eBay which I considered, but too far? If so, the trim looked OK, although I could not see the whole case.

Probably not helpful or relevant, as they're PVC, but this Chinese seller offers bespoke designs.
Re: Decorative edge trim for an Exacta
yes but isn't the chinese seller saying minimum order 3000 mts seems a lot for one machine may have a bit left over
Re: Decorative edge trim for an Exacta
Yes Treefrog I bought that one off ebay. Mech is fine but the case can be crumbled to dust by hand. I have never seen so many woodworm holes in my life. The front is just solid enough to use as a template.
The trim on the old case is a T profile and I am not clever enough to make a groove around the edge of the case I am making to accommodate this so I am looking for a J profile that I can glue on and have the curly bit hanging over the edge if that makes sense
You mentioned in a 2017 post you had a spare case. Have you still got it?
Re: Decorative edge trim for an Exacta
I do have a perfect Exacta empty case given to me by the owner of the Robin Hood pub in Sheringham that has machines in it, he recased his machine in a new case because he preferred square edges. Unfortunately although I have had a while, I have a rough Exacta myself and plan to use for this. Cases on all these machines (Gunter Wulff) are a nightmare, probably 30% are totally knackered....
In fact I have another two mechanisms and cabinet furniture awaiting cabinets..... I have been tempted, instead trying to make something look like the original, being inventive like some of the revamps done

Hi there, did you manage to source the trim ? I managed to source what appears to be a similar trim on ebay for my Brenco Swinging Swinger machine recently .

Hi Nick. Where did you get your trim from? I'm going to need some for a machine I've just bought.
Re: Decorative edge trim for an Exacta
Hi there, I bought the trim from ebay (here is a link), then put a black pinstripe down the centre. Trim comes in different widths and lengths and has its own sticky back:

Re: Decorative edge trim for an Exacta
I found some edge trim that I was thinking of on eBay. Not cheap at £13 a meter but it's going to look great I think.
Re: Decorative edge trim for an Exacta
So finally I have finished my Exacta with the new case I have made. I am quite pleased with it as wood work is not my first skill. I think the trim looks great. It took ages to put on as the corners would cause the bit before and after to lift so had to clamp the strip down as I fitted it.

Nice work that, well done.
I have a very soft spot for Günter Wulff mechanical machines, they're like the Cinderella of my era.
Yet the mechanics are beyond compare when it comes to design.

I have managed to buy some of this plastic gold J profile trim but I had to buy bulk. I will put it on the for sale page over the weekend.

Well done sourcing the trim, I found using a hot air gun on bends and corners makes life a lot easier, especially on T moulding.
