Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...

American, British, French or German? We want to know about it.

I have to admit the white one looks awesome and who would know there was all that metal work under the white paint. I would not have considered this machine at the time. Well done.....interesting it looks to have an early Jennings handle assembly which I have noticed Boland use on occasions, which reminds me I have a Jennings based Boland machine below, which Mr PM called an ugly beast, which may well be true, but I am a odd one when it comes to machine taste and it appealed to me, might inspire me to tart up a bit as looks very sad. Underneath is a Jennings Victoria converted to single reel...

Just a week ago I added "the Tom Boland collection" page to www.penny-arcade.info, some nice machines to see and more to follow

Just looked at the new page. Here's a couple of pics of my Mills/Boland bandit, if you want to use them.

Another odd one to add to the mix a Screen Stars at an auction in California. They describe it as an early Mills prototype :HaHa:

Interesting chopped away side and even a door made to match. With a interesting badge stuck to the top and a Mills QT handle welded to the original blade handle....

That is an odd one - bit of a QT vibe going on.

Another one not seen before added to list, for sale in the US with a nice football theme. Had similar cabinet and Jennings handle to the single reelers, like the Film Stars at the Peter Wilson sale, even the paint artwork is the same.

There was a point made on the Facebook group that it may not be Bolands due to the coin cup, but most single reelers use these as they're definitely the same camp as the single reeler above. Any views anyone? !PUZZLED!

Anyway, I love the theme and it would be a hit in the U.K.

My guess is that the machine should have a faceplate like the Jockey Club, something like. Everyone’s favourite as they are all different sports and were famous in each of their own skills... Maybe someone swapped out at some point.

I'm guessing that 'Geoff Dukes' is meant to be Geoff Duke, the TT rider.
An eclectic bunch indeed!

I always figured the builder that day just closed their eyes and grabbed whatever castings came to hand in a huge barrel?! I say that in all seriousness as I've seen tons of odd variations to these Boland machines over the years. They don't interest me in the slightest so never documented or kept track of any of them.

I agree about the seeming 'random nature' of the castings, but I find the machines fascinating.

It's always an embarrassment every time I remember that I only have ONE Boland's machine.
