Home made xylophone

Post by geofflove »

A couple of months back I picked up a rather sad Bally Hi Deal pinball. Steppers rusted solid, playfield screws rusted into the wood etc.
So having been busy stripping and cleaning I managed to get it all working. However, it was missing the three chime unit to make its bings and bongs. Used units are hard to come by and seem to fetch a more premium price than I wanted to pay.
As chance would have it, while working on the machine, I found 3 coils rattling around in the cabinet - not sure who’d left them there or why. Anyway, it got me thinking...
I purchased a kiddies chime bar set from a music shop online for a tenner and set to with a bit of sheet steel and aluminium angle.
I needed to add some washers and felt pads to make the chime bars sound properly when upside down but apart from that it petty straightforward and actually works pretty well.
Not for the purist I’m sure but did the job!
It’s actually a really fun pinball and I love the artwork. Sadly it’ll probably have to move on to make space for the next project.

Thanks. Yes it’s a fun one to play and I love the graphics. I just wish I had space for more then one. I have a Spanish eyes which I did up which is fun to play. I also have a delta queen to collect on Monday. The problem I can only really fit one in the house and one in the workshop. So one always has to give!

Same problem I had. Hence why I've sold all but 2 on. :(
