Old Pennies

Post by badpenny »

Coincidences are sometimes baffling but interesting.
Wednesday was my birthday, Fifty-Fourteen years of age. Somebody asked me with all the pre-decimal coins I've got, why hadn't I mounted a frame of coins for my year?
I have a vague idea I once tried to, but it was more dificult than I thought it would be.

Now the other part, a few weeks ago I was photographing some machines I'll be off loading this year.
One of them being a Caille type Greyhound Racer. At the time I wanted to show that the sign for 10 payout had been ground down and changed. So I took a close up of it and then cropped the wrong side, giving me a close up of the pennies on the top instead. And there is a 1954, never seen one before. Now since then it's all been moved and the coins thrown into one of the many buckets of coins I've got laying around.
Typical, if I can be bothered to search it'll take me ages.

OK, come on then - what's the story? Pennies weren't minted in 1954 and I'm pretty damn certain you don't have a 1933 penny either. But happy birthday anyway.

Oh, a belated b/day [not bidet] BP. Sorry, emails take a lot longer from Upsidedownland.

Happy Birthday. You ARE Paul McCartney!
Can we have a better look at the Greyhound Racer? It's on my 'wants' list.

On looking at your birthright coin I see that Brittania looks more like a centurion than a goddess!? Hippy bath day.

What again?
I first retired over ten years ago.

It's two years to go actually, the thieving bloody government extended the pension age a few years back. Sadly they extended women's from 60 to 66. Makes me glad I changed sex back when I did.

two photos to ponder
1. BP pays homage to his favorite hobby

Nice, and the only way I can get my birth year on a penny.
Perhaps I'm a facsimile too?

I've seen the copies - they have none of the patina and character of the original.

Ah ..... but have you an original 1954 or 1933 to compare them to?

Believe me I'm an original 1954 and you wouldn't want to get anywhere near my patina unless armed with anything less than a wire brush and Dettol.
