1930s Evans 'Galloping Dominos' on ebay USA
Anyone ever seen this machine before? Based on dominos, is it really 1930s? Looks younger to me, but what do I know?

Yeah introduced in 1936. These big E/M consoles are complicated so they never really make much unless they have the animation like Paces Races etc. And that broken glass really brings the price down. Though that could be glued with amazing results if you know what you're doing.

Not the only dice game to have been marketed thus; the Jentzsch und Meerz 'DOMINO' being the famous one.
I wonder if it's an American-ism?

No. It's probably the brain child of some marketing wizard who thought: "People love gambling. Let's see....there is betting on the ponies and then there is dice.....I know.....Let's call it Galloping Dominos'!!"
As the famous saying goes, "You'll never go broke underestimating the taste of the American Public."

What do Americans understand by the word 'Dominoes'?
Is it synonymous with 'dice'?
Is there significance in the different spelling?

We do understand the difference between dominos and dice. Dice is the preferred game by far, played as "craps" in almost all casinos. Dominos is mainly played by the Cuban/South American immigrants, Miami being a major location for the game.
I was using literary license, hoping no one would notice. You're too sharp for me, Brigham.

As originally each domino represented one of the 21 results of throwing two six-sided dice, it's easy to see why a close association has persisted. Handan-Ni's Domino uses them as gambling symbols, which could just as easily have been dice. I guess that's the same on Galloping Dominoes. On J&M's Domino the little figures are playing dice, not dominoes. Maybe 'domino' has less hard-core gambling connotations than 'dice'.

It's been a long lock-down tf, muddles the mind and reduces ones observation !!
Re: 1930s Evans 'Galloping Dominos' on ebay USA
I never thought of those as single dice on the wheel, or that those were little "dice" people with legs on the graphics or front, only saw them as half dominoes. I do notice in my own house that many times people that come here have modern minds and eyes don't get the subtle or otherwise images and names from ye olden days., and i have to inform them of the reasons......
