Win a Prize backflash - original or not?

Post by coppinpr »

I've been asked to make a replacement backflash and its one I've never seen before, it LOOKS original, and it looks Olli Whales but id like to be sure before I remake the design, if its not original, ill make the better-known version (if it is indeed Oliver Whales)

"Only Old Pennies" is definitely not 'original'.

Thanks, Derek, never see one before, and then one crops up on Ebay the same day! Although the top flash reads correctly it doesn't seem to match in my eyes.

Both the back flash and top flash are the same as depicted in the Braithwaite book.

Two more culled from the Arena, including a more exciting top-flash.

The one on Ebay is the same machine as the one from the Arena, stripped of its dark varnish.

Maybe it's partly the lighting, but it looks rather anaemic by comparison.

Photo taken with flash so that will bleach out some of the colour. Notwithstanding that, I prefer the 'older' warmer look/patina of the machine.
