Bryan’s Clock Hands
Bryan’s Clock Hands
Hope someone can help. I’ve got a 12 stop Bryan’s clock with jackpot. It’s had a replacement hour hand at some point, which I’ve removed. Trouble is I need a replacement, or a template as to the dimensions so I can make one.
My second question, was it normal for the hour hand to be soldered to the brass sleeve it’s fitted to ?
Thirdly, are there instructions anywhere for setting the minute hand correctly once I replace the clock face ? And possible the hour hand too seeing as it has a jackpot.
Thanks in advance
Dave

Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
I can't provide the template at present but I think your other questions are answered here.
Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Thanks Jerry, don’t suppose you know how to set the machine to a jackpot win?
Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Hi Dave
The hour hand on mine is 35mm shorter than the minute hand,
Just measure the spindle diameter for the hole size.
To set up both hands correctly, put the mechanism in the jackpot position.
IF your not sure how to do this, here goes.
Lift up the pecker blade from the index wheel, now turn the index wheel until pecker blade will slot into the 12 win position.
IF it will only go halfway down the slot, this means only the minute hand is at the 12 o'clock position. Repeat this until the pecker blade goes all the way down. Now the mechanism is at jack pot position. Leave in this position now to fix the hands.
The hour hand on mine was soldered to the brass spindle. If you want to do it this way, you will need to take the mech out of the case, and take off the clock face so not to burn it. After soldering you can now refit the clock face, refitting is a bit fiddly because yo need to get the hour hand through the hole in the clock face. Now after doing this hopefully your solder will hold mine didn't.
After doing this 3 or 4 times of trying, I threw the towel in with the solder .
So plan B, doing it this way you can leave the mech in the case, and no need to take off the clock face. From the front of the clock take off the surround and the glass. Now using an epoxy 2 part adhesive, glue the hour hand to the spindle at 12 o clock position, and leave for 24 hours. Now bolt on the minute hand at 12 o clock. It's much easier with the glue, I did this with mine over 12 months ago, it gets played a lot, and is still fine.

Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Thanks very much Derek, I’ll give that a try once I’ve made myself a new hour hand. Mine was a bodged tin plate hour hand on top of the original broken one. I was already considering using a 2 part epoxy for ease. Thanks
Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Not sure it helps, but this was the one I had. It wasn't the hand that was broken on mine, it was one of the teeth.
Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Thank you for that Alan, as there doesn’t seem to be a template anywhere, this helps me to design one myself.
Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Is this the pecker and index plate you refer to ? I have actually hit the 12 coin win before so I know it works, but the plate over this slot seems to stop the pecker from entering.dirk55 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 11:18 pm

Any idea what this plate and nut is for?
Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Does anyone know if this is in the resource file (before I start to draw it)?
Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Hi Dave
That is a spring loaded plate that can be adjusted to make it easier or harder for the blade to be inserted. For Home use it's better to adjust it to its maximum open position.

I'm looking at the photo of your index disc, there is a nut and bolt and washer holding the adjusting
Plate closed. It should not be there. Take this out and the pecker blade will go in

Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Just removed it and the pecker goes in enough to make a 12 coin payout and I think it moves enough to activate the jackpot, but will know better once it’s back in its case.
Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Hi Dave,
Attached a picture of my hand. Also a picture of the adjustable jackpot slot showing the spring clip. The parts in red paint are the adjustable bits.

Re: Bryan’s Clock Hands
Ok guys, I need some help here.
The mechanism on my clock works well and I'm reassembling the hands as Derek has instructed but to align the hands I need help working out how the jackpot works.
If you look at the photo below, as I understand it the jackpot is activated when Lever C drops off its support and this is done when Lever A moves it.
What I cannot work out is:
Does the cut out E on Lever A need to fall over Pin D ( in which case Lever C moves to the right to activate a jackpot)
or
Does the "point" on lever A need to be raised by the Pin D ( in which case Lever C moves to the left to activate a jackpot)
Your experience and help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave
I have a photo of the jackpot position that should help you, I don't have a computer, only a tablet and I'm not sure how to upload photos with it. If you PM me your email address I could send it by email and you could upload it to the forum, it may help other members
