A pair of Little Dukes

Post by nosmit »

I thought I would share with these Jennings Little Dukes I picked up this morning. They are in a bad way but needed to be saved. Falling apart and obviously home to a few mice over the last 5 decades. Has anyone any advice on making replacement backs?

Looks like a fun project. I am in the middle of rebuilding a Greyhound Clement and Whales conversion of a little duke at the moment as the cabinet had been badly damaged.

Are they on U.K. coinage

Yes they are on old penny. There are only 3 payouts 2,6, or 8 pence. Interestingly the symbols on the reels seem to be astrological, and fruit with phrases on them.

The reel symbols are similar to those on the Caille Ben Hur disc.

Going broke fast

I note that time after time the old British machines shown in the Forum operate mostly on the large penny.
How did the operators of the day make a living off so many penny machines.
By contrast, an American slot is rarely found with a one cent coin slot. ROGER

There was a time the dollar was not worth a lot. Also British gaming laws limited the play to but a few establishments, excluding the illegal venues

Looks like a Jennings to me, the non jackpot versions do exist as above. I would imagine companies like Samson imported them with their usual Number reels
