It's a Knockout

Post by coin-op »

I wondered if anyone is familiar with this machine i.e. who made it and when? It's currently on 2p, which suggests post '71. If anyone had a schematic that would be useful too. Thanks

Thanks. Must admit, I'm finding it difficult to find any reference to the machine. I thought this site might have produced a result; but apparently not!

Not doubting your knowledge, but how do you know it's Sega, moon? Have you owned one of these? There seems to be absolutely no mention of it on 'tinternet.

Sadly, so far not been able to find any reference anywhere to this machine, nor another example. So, there remains an element of mystery about it.

Revisiting this, I think that it may have been converted to the 'It's a Knockout' theme with just the footballers kicking the swinging ball at targets being original, and the TV show link backflash and top sign added later on when the show was popular viewing in the 1970s.

In the '80s I used to operate a machine by Sega where you flipped coins up into targets, in a wider cabinet to this but with sufficient similarities to cabinet design and build as this one to match it.
Sega usually had their rectangular screen printed aluminium label fastened to the backs of cabinets glued in place, sometimes with a nail in each corner, usually bottom corner of the cabinet at the back, and not top centre where you may first think.

Two possibilities for the original game could be:
SEGA 'Mini Futbol' (sic).
SEGA 'Soccer'.

SEGA's 1968 Mini Futbol is a clone of Minisoccer Ltd's 1964 Minisoccer and SEGA's 1970 Soccer is a clone of Crompton's 1967 Star Soccer - both British patented table games, which have little in common with It's a Knockout.
I seem to be repeating myself. !OMFG!
Do we have a bigger image of It's a Knockout?

My old computer with decent pics got fried - so pic I uploaded is the only one I believe I now have. As the weather is getting better I’ll try and dig it out in a while and get a better shot.

I think you emailed me an image when you bought it, which has sadly also succumbed to the curse of data loss. :smash:

Edit to add - I found the email, but the image is the same size. !!JUNK!!
