Hello from Michigan, USA
Hi all,
Just refered to the website after starting to refurbish an Oliver Whales "Strato Play" machine. Love the "ball flip" machines but also work on most any coin-op stamp machines and pachinkos.

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the photo.
We have members in Americaland, one of whom has a collection of those types of English machines that is wonderous.
He'll probably be along soon.

Hi Phil,
Where are you in Michigan? I'm originally from Waterford, just north of Pontiac, now living in Tennessee.
Your Whales "Strato Play" is an excellent machine upon with to base a growing collection of British coin-ops. I started in the 80's with a single Whales "Allwin" and now, many years later am proud owner of a "wondrous" collection. The advantage you have is that the vast majority of American collectors have little interest in or knowledge of these games. The mechanics are fairly simple and the games represent a time when things were much more gentle in society.
So, welcome to the premier web site on arcade games which also embodies a fine group of lads eager to share knowledge and enthusiasm. And good hunting.

Is Wonderous a real word?
A: Seriously though, you might be pleased to know that “wonderous” WAS a real word for a few centuries. Since which "wondrous" has won favour.
I shall make a serious attempt to propel myself into a century nearer to the rest of you.

Allwins that feature actions such as horse racing, flying, gambling, war and so forth tend to attract premium prices. I'm not sure whether this is because it embodies an element of excitement or if the event pictured resonates more within the human spirit. Any ideas?

Both John, but I believe that the latter is a stronger 'pull' for people, based on the visual/sensory stimulation cues that some of the backflashes display - who does not remember Bryans boldly striped backgrounds standing out in the arcade.john t peterson wrote:I'm not sure whether this is because it embodies an element of excitement or if the event pictured resonates more within the human spirit.
