Re: EH / Collector Connector sales
Yes it's good to have some sort of way buying machines in this current time (easylive) the old way of turn up on the day and bid can make you buy a machine you never went to buy. I know I've done that many times

And viewing is most welcome, I've been over to Steve's regularly and he's always very helpful and straightforward.
In fact a guided look around the machines is actually better for me than attending a sale.
I am fairly local though so it doesn't bother me massively but it has to be local to someone!

Very surprised to see no comment on the outstanding prices achieved for the three Bryans Magic Machines at the weekend. £15,500 plus commission, and they are staying together.
Re: EH / Collector Connector sales
I guess what is there to say? If someone wants them, they will reach their level... I did look at them in person and certainly they had a high quality finish restoration on them. I guess for me it was a shame the original crackle finish was not there as the new finish is as smooth as an Aston Martin… Nice they stayed together though.

Re: EH / Collector Connector sales
I didn't get to see them sadly but if they are that smooth perhaps they are a bit too good. Hard line with restorations, dammed whatever you do sometimes.
I just find it odd at times what gets a forum talking and what doesn't.

Re: EH / Collector Connector sales
Re the prototype magic machines sold on Sunday, I can add some details of these not known by at least some members of this forum. They were bought by the vendor about fifteen years ago from Australia through a third party. What is generally not known is that they did not have crackle paint. They were rough ply with matt white primer. Also, they were slightly larger than the production machines made from 1959: about half an inch larger in all dimensions. Also, some of the detail was different. At the time they were acquired I had a string cutter, I believe number 105 or 107, which had been painted canary yellow! So I arranged to have it repainted at the same time and place as the prototypes were to be painted. The four machines were altogether so I had the chance to observe the differences. Prior to being painted, these were filled and rubbed a number of times to get a suitable finish to paint. They were then painted by a company in Kent who specialized in painting high quality artwork on motorbike petrol tanks.
I think that it is fitting to know this unique trio is staying together and, even better, that they are to remain in this country.

Good to know history and my comment “as smooth as an Aston Martin” perhaps was appropriate.
I wonder why they were sent to Australia in an undercoat, unless they had already been stripped out there……
