The difference between the old and the new

I don't usually make modern machine replacement glasses or reel strips for people for several reasons, they are too big to print in one piece, I don't usually like the look of them, the reel strips need to be printed on plastic to allow for the backlighting AND they are very hard to do. This last reason directly results from the difference between the old and the new way of printing. Modern printing of this sort allows for much better blending and shading than what was used on the machines of the past, it can be done, but it takes a lot of time and effort. I accepted this job as an exception to my rule for several reasons. the machine is an old friend I played many times on cruise ships, it's a fun and entertaining machine to play. It and its Mk1 version "Texas Tea" were a big success for IGT around 10 years ago, one or two remain in service on ships at least. I was interested to see if I could do it, plus the guy pleaded with me,(I'll include a photo of the glass he had in the machine, a rather large cat(?)not a wonder he pleaded with me) All I had to go on was a photo of a badly damaged glass, some poor online photos and the artwork for the online gambling version, which is similar but not the same. Well, its done now, the darn thing is massive! I had to get the acrylic specially cut to the customer's templates, which were not good, the 4 acrylics for the two glasses, cut to size, cost £60! The vinyl for the artwork on both glasses had to be printed in two halves and then mounted so as not to show the join.
what it taught me is to keep to my rule of not doing modern slot machine artwork
