Thanks again Rory your help and knowledge is overwhelming.

I had a play today with some hydrocloric acid on an old pinball apron and pretty happy how it works was pretty nervous that's for sure specially when it dropped onthe concrete and fizzed like in the movies hahahah

Cool Dan. The acid works quicker when you keep replenishing on the rusty areas so rubbing with a rag or brush is good. On rusty metal surfaces without paint I often use coarse steel wool to speed up the action. Though usually metal I get is totally rusted so I'll just drop the whole part in a bucket full of acid and leave it to do the work with a little agitation.

That is a cool job done, looks like new. Was it just the blue repainted, must have taken ages to mask off.

Tree, this was a while ago so I'm slightly vaguer than normal......I was experimenting with techniques on this one and actually hand painted the blue to keep some imperfections and match in with the rest of the slightly weathered silkscreened ink. The rest of it just needed the odd touch up where it was fading away. Before retouching I sprayed a very thin coat of clear lacquer over it to stabilize and that brightened all the colours no end. I've learnt the hard way about this after re-touching things and clear afterwards only to have the original colours change enough that I've had to re-re-touch my handiwork! :o

Gearbox for Conveyor

Post by andreas »

Topic merged - Site Admin.

My name is Andreas and I live near Hannover (Germany). Please, excuse my imperfect English.
I bought an incomplete Conveyor many years ago. The gearbox is missing. The engine is still there and works. It is a "Stevenson & Lovett", RPM 2500. Does anybody know which gearbox was used? Can someone tell me the exact type designation? Maybe someone still has such a gearbox left?
I find the machine very nice and would be very happy to be able to use it again.

So Andreas - you have a Fault! haha. I happen to be working on two examples right now. My own with original motor, and another for a customer that I had to find a motor suitable in my parts, because what was in his was garbage. The speed out of the original gearbox output running on 240 volts is 140 rpm. The original drive wheel has an inner diameter of 40mm. But that still needs slowing down with the rheostat once attached to the machine. For the customers game I found a Parvalux motor marked at 4000rpm before the gearbox. I can't remember now what the output was from the gearbox but much faster than original. Once I applied a rheostat the speed was easily adjustable to run correctly, and using the same 40mm size drive wheel. I stripped, cleaned and rebuilt the gearbox before testing so I would have a correct measurement - but still needs a good external clean. Seems to me most owners and restorers are far too lazy or indifferent to bother rebuilding motors unless they completely stop! I rebuild EVERY single one that comes through my workshop and makes a world of difference I can assure you all. Also from a safety factor many times the internal wiring has degraded terribly due to oil and heat. So either replacement wiring is called for or sometimes multiple layers of heatshrink.

cashbox for Conveyor

Post by gameswat »

Finally finishing up my third (and final) Conveyor, and realised none of them ever came with a cashbox. In fact searching this site and the internet can't find any photos as yet. There's a locking latch screwed to the side of the case so it had one once upon a time. If someone can please help then thank you! |/XX\|

I’ve just pulled mine out of the garage; sorry Gameswat, no cash box in mine, just an hasp screwed to the side.
Mine requires full restoration, amongst several other machines I will get to one day. Is your backflash original or have you printed it?

Hi Howard.
As you most likely know there is a copy of the backflash in the Resources section.
