Weather beaten ebay Hi Top

Post by arrgee »

Here's a good winter project for those die-hard slotties. The seller says it's been in his dad's garden for 20 years! Personally I think a quick rub down and two coats of Sikkens would bring it back to a topping piece, suitable for eating your summer barbie off again, although not quite sure what you would do with the metalwork on top.

Looks like those damn pigeons have been playing slots again. They never figure it out: leaving rather than taking the deposits.

I bid £10, that was for the space next to my rockery, I thought it would look nice with a bit of white wash on it as a feature......

BP this has nothing to do with your compost heap does it? !OMFG!

It's a real shame to see this, but I am struggling to see what is worth recovering as the mechanism really looks screwed solid with 20 years or corrosion. The back hood always worth something is cracked, the wood has had it. I suspect that leaves the front hardware and castings, but it is difficult to tell how much corrosion has taken place........Although I am addicted to buying the impossible, I may leave this one to the magicians of us who can cast a spell or for a long winter project. !!ESCAPE!!

Might be worth taking a metal detector round and dig up the garden. Could be a Bryans Bumper buried.

I can only imagine it had three gold sovereigns jamming the mechanism.

This is art, my friends, ART! It symbolizes man's struggle against the repressive nature of modern society and the pressures to conform to the norms that bind and restrict the free spirit of the true nature of anti-scientific being that was once free, but is now not free, or rather less free than once was due to the constraints of the technocrats that control and smother the gentle spirit....Oh, never mind.

You're right John, judging by what I learned in last night's BBC documentary on aspiring artists at Goldsmiths' College. From now on I'm encouraging the woodworm. !!ARTIST!!

Well I pondered this one for a few days and feel the need to hide from my hole and eat my words.....

I could make excuses that I hit an extra zero when bidding or thought it was the Sega Hi Top that was for sale at the same time, but suspect that wouldn't wash......I will go with the art form idea....So next November look out at the Coventry auction for a unique piece of American history with 50 years of patina and charm, this has got to be a rare piece and make top money '!'
