First timer - Ainsworth Four Score
First timer - Ainsworth Four Score
Hi I have just found this forum and joined.
I am located in Sydney Australia and owning a slot machine is illegal here so support and information is harder to find.
After some heavy searching I managed to get an Aristocrat Four Score. It looks OK and would appreciate some help in the restoration.
Two pics, the back plate and front of unit (I have just taken out the main mechanism).
I would like to start with basic info - what model is it and how to service. From what I have read, I should degrease and then lube. Any manuals would be ideal. I look forward to taking the journey with this group.
Thanks from downunder,
Adam

Re: First timer - please help
Hi Adam, greetings from the other side of the world!
You have there a nice Aussie made Aristocrat Regal 'Super 22'. There is a manual of sorts for those machines in the Resource section of this forum - if you search for Aristocrat Regal in the Resource area you will find the link to request the download. A word of warning, these manuals are really general as the mech in Aristocrat machines tends to cover most of their models of machines!
Looking at your machine from the outside, the chrome looks to be in good order, just needs a really good polish. I recommend Autosol for that job. The artwork is all there and seems to be original. The only thing that looks to be aftermarket is the switch on top of the belly art panel. I can't see it clearly enough - what was its purpose?
Servicing is best to start with what's working and what isn't - if it spins freely and pays out, it's best not to mess with it too much. Just clean and polish the casing and you'd have a nice machine. If there are operating issues, let us know on here and there will be plenty of guidance on how to solve issues.

Re: First timer - please help
It's a four-reel club machine, by the look of the payouts. Could be a conversion from pre-decimal. (1/- to 10 cents).
If it has the hopper payout, you may have problems.
Is the red switch to reserve the machine? I've never seen that before. A flap or shutter on the coin entry is more usual.

Interesting addition. I would say almost certainly an arcade/casino surviver with that little add on in place - it must have been linked to a light to tell other players not to touch the machine if the person filling it with coins needed a bathroom break!
I would leave that in place. It's not original but is certainly a part of the machine's history and an interesting talking point for it.

Re: First timer - Ainsworth Four Score
That's unlikely as Australia stopped using the 1/- early in 1966 and I think the Regal is post 66 (1970 I believe).
The "reserved" button most likely switches off the lights making the machine at least look dead, while the player rushes off to get more coins to lose.
If the machine has a slide payout then it's most likely as good as gold. With a hopper I wouldn't hold my breath.
