Bandit Handle Collar Extraction Tool

Post by malcymal »

Well, I had the most stubborn of bandit handle collars to get off. The nail through the wood trick didn't work so whilst browsing through an old tool shop in the local town, I came across some old imperial stuff - useful. Then I saw a strange contraption. Yes, it gets off bandit handle collars, it's very clever - pictures attached. If anybody wants one let me know as they had a few in the shop.

Adjust device to collar holes, then tighten back, then spanner loose. In this case it's left handed thread, Sega Continental.

£14.99 English pounds and a spare pack of 4 pins for 20 shillings.... Those pins fitted the holes exactly (I used two pins opposite to each other in a diagonal) and are very very solid. Put the pins in the collar first, line up with device, unwind till they drop in the recess, then tighten. Once you have loosened the thread with your spanner just turn the wooden handle. Its really well made. I can get the other two blighters off upstairs now that need a refurb on chrome. If people want me to get them I will wait till end of week, see what we've got and ask the shop to get them in. I saw two left in shop. I guess this is something they make as they weren't old looking, clean shiny and modern. Would imagine postage would be a couple of quid, if that. Malcy.
Got one mail from a slotty on here, please let me know if others are interested.

Hi, :D for anyone who doesn’t know what this is made for :!?!: , it is a hand held pin vice for holding small odd shaped items when working on them, drilling, filing, polishing, etc, so it has lots more uses other than removing bandit collars and well worth the money. I got mine about 30 years ago from a model shop, but I have never thought to use it in the way you have, well done Malcy you have just taught an old dog a new trick :tarah:

A useful piece of kit - originally designed as a Jewellers Engravers Vice but sometimes called a universal holder or peg vice.
A pin vice looks like this and is used for gripping drill bits, needle files and other tools:
