Don’t get me wrong, there were lovely items there and Steve did identify the Hi Tops had missing parts, but to me they were scrap… The Castle Front, you’re right, was at Martel Maids in Guernsey in December (does not appear in Mr PM’s sale results) and eventually sold for £380 after a few auction attempts. Problem with Channel Islands, you pay VAT on total sale cost as well as fees, and shipping is high, but the buyer did well to get £1600 for it, given it was not in great condition: poor chrome parts, bad photocopy for an award and worse was the stoved in top casting… The Guernsey auction shared loads of pictures of the machine and the damage.

The Extraordinary was odd as well. Looked very nice, but had been converted to 3D, but was a 1D/50c machine with the coin entry that goes in sideways. Someone had crudely drilled a hole in the casting for the coin entry onto the original old penny escalator and put a plate over the whole of the central area. I could not tell if was an old operator conversion, but made me wonder. I could not understand this, as I have seen many 3D convertions using the original hole with spacers on the escalator. !PUZZLED!

I don’t think the live auctions we know and love will be back anytime soon as it’s, I believe, a lot less hassle and better for Steve, and he’s running with the idea people would rather bid from the comfort of their own home! I personally don’t agree, and the downside is it can be a bit of a dumping ground for the lesser machines, as we have witnessed, and not getting any better. Maybe time for someone else to step in or come out of retirement. Maybe resurrect the Coventry venue! It's not just about the buying and selling, it's the banter and chit chat I miss!

I think we all miss live in person auctions, and I would sooner inspect before buying, but I can’t see Steve resurrecting them.

This nice Melon Front was missed from Bigwood 24th auction, for a pricey £1300 plus comm.

Loved the description on said Mellon Front: ", it seemed siezed at first but with some muscle & it works intermitantly." This procedure needs to be added to the slot machine "tips" section. No more dismantling machines and replacing parts; just add a little more muscle. Saves time and money.

There's another Dutch Auction Co. sale on 25th March: Radios & General Collectibles Auction. As most of the coin-op has been through the saleroom several times already, I won't be listing the results of this one in the Arena.

Yeah if I see a Pickwick in North America for under, say, $1000 USD I will want it. (but almost none in NA)
