Hi from the New Forest
Hi from the New Forest
Good day fellow enthusiast's.
Back in the mid 70's and as a lad of 13, I started to pick up litter outside of John Mills arcade at Billing Aquadrome....hence started the fascination for slot machines, acquiring my first bandit a couple of years later which I still have, a "Tom Boland fair play" for the princely sum of £15.
Many have come ...... and gone but as Yorkshire man, I tend to keep hold of the ones I picked up dirt cheap and spent hours renovating
. Needless to say I haven't bought much lately with the prices going through the roof, and me being "as tight as..."
Having said all that, I've just picked up a "Gold cup" that I just couldn't turn down, so might well need some help as I get my teeth into it

Well done and welcome to Pennymachines.
I've not seen that particular Boland's before. Is it an ancient Mills mech?
I was born in The New Forest and strangely am not Yorkshire.

Hi BP
Yes it's an old Mills mech.
Smothered it in some grease my dad had lying around when I got it. 40 plus years later I've not touched the inside and it still works.

Yes you have BP.
Welcome to the forum mikef . Beware of strange men born in the dark recesses of the new forest and reared by wild ponies. Many retain their shaggy mane.

Strewth! I see little hope.
Just a thought but, any clues where my clock on the mantle piece has gone?

I'm always on the look out for Fair Plays, but have only ever seen two others... Maybe other members might come out of the woodwork?
Mine used to be a painted in a similar manner to yours, until I saw a silver one in a book and just assumed that was how they originally came.

Shire Publications Ltd. were acquired by Osprey Publishing in 2007 who were acquired by Bloomsbury Publishing in 2010. Amusement Machines and Automatic Vending Machines are both out of print.
