Andy,

The owner is in Aus. Trying to get him to join the forum. He has already stripped the machine and doing a rebuild. Hope he does join, as it would be good to see progress. Was a family owned piece. Great to see one. !!THUMBSX2!!

Excellent TF, thanks.

Yes, lets hope the owner joins us - and lives in Melbourne!!!!

I'd be delighted to meet and view the machine. He/she can see my last seven as well. Reckon I'd swap my War Eagle, Mystery Golden, Governor or Ball Gum Vendor for their Aristo.

The handle mech design is different, see my pic, mine seems to have an extra few linkages plus the device hanging from the top of the cabinet.

Appreciate the lock pics as that has cleared it up. This has barrel (cam) locks but do not lock onto anything. And I couldn't work out why there were two lugs either side!

If I can't get them here, I would really appreciate the link to buy in the UK.

Thank you so much, and the last pic is my version of your Starlite!!
Andy, who responded on the Aristocrat machine, discovered and is also from Melbourne, may have seen this handle arrangement before. I am fairly certain. as mentioned, it looks like there should be a pump attached to the part at the top and a rod from it would go through the square connector on the end of the handle assembly. Never seen this type on an Aristocrat before. In fact the guy who has the earlier made “Aristocrat” machine on this thread shared some pictures of his cabinet which is the same simple setup as most Clubmasters.

I do wonder why Aristocrat moved to a more complex cabinet setup compared to the earlier machines.

Thanks TF,

I'm going to try a couple of different springs to see if they work first. I have to wait till the handle and other parts come back from the electroplater. I believe, through research here and other sites, it's an early model Clubmaster as it has the webbing - individual reel windows? Could be wrong, and the serial number is xxx.
My Starlite which is circa 1961 has a very simple spring return setup.
The pic below is how I bought the Clubmaster, but has already been stripped and painting started.
Maybe Andy can throw some more light on the handle return?

Nice Aristocrat find on facebook too, would love to see in person!

The picture I showed of my machine also has the reel posts, also the cabinet above is an earlier model machine, so not sure this is likely the reason. Your handle assembly is totally different with different numbers. If associated with a pump, it may be a later addition possibly... As I say, Aristocrat fitted these from the early '60s onwards, same as Nutt and Muddle.... Maybe someone will pipe up if they know... One option in the short term is to remove the additional linkage parts for now and see if you can attach a return spring. To be honest the spring's not critical as the mech will push the handle up anyway.

Afraid I can't shed any light on the handle return pump/no pump question as haven't ever seen a Clubman, Clubmaster or Aristocrat in the flesh.

As for the Aristocrat owner up-thread, if you see this please PM me.
Kindest regs,
A.P.

Would anyone be interested in pics of this restore and if there is any interest, do I post them here or start another thread?

Post away, if the mods want to move to a new chain I am sure they will do this. Searched through my Aristocrat documents and could not find the hub assembly of your machine. The later Nevada setup which started in 1963 had a damper linked in at the same place to the top of the cabinet, but the linkage is very different....

If it's the Starlite, best to start a new topic, so we keep this one on Clubman & Clubmaster. !THUMBS!

Correct, Starlite is finished but I might start a new thread on it, with some before and after shots for reference.

The Clubmaster is stripped and painting commenced, chrome pieces are with the electroplater.

The payout tray polished up pretty good with Autosol.

This is the bottom panel that has the access door to the money box (maybe not the correct terminology?) Paint stripper applied, then sanded.

Primer applied.

Lockwood locks arrived today, thanks Gameswat. Needs a slight trim on the backplate so it can close, but looks great having the original lock in.

The gold looks good. I did mine in similar colours, but silver.

Thanks Special!
Colour is meant to be brass but does have more of a gold look.

If you've read some earlier posts in this thread, I'm trying to work out the handle return. It seems mine is a different setup to most. Would it be possible to see some pics of yours?

Here are photos of the handle mech on my Clubmaster but I don't think it will help as mine is a simpler more basic style than yours seems to be.
