This Clubmaster, early or late?

Post by coppinpr »

I've had an inquiry about this machine as to its date. As you can see it's not quite the usual model. I was wondering if this was perhaps an early version or indeed a late version. Also, what year did they stop making the Clubmaster? 1958 or later? It looks to have the "Ainsworth Dental Co." badge top left.

If you look a few pages earlier, you will see this machine, which was badged the New Clubman. The only difference is that this machine has the coin entry from “The Aristocrat”.

Shame it is missing the trim on the lower casting. I would say this predates the Clubmaster we know, and may have been the transition period.

Does he want to sell it to me cheap? :HaHa:

All help on parts etc. welcome or even new machine is OK...

If anyone can help to make this baby live, let me know.

Markko,

Getting hold of an original mechanism will be tough, but main differences to a later version is the coin entry and the older mechanism used metal star wheels. I have seen many later mechanisms in Clubmasters, you just need a coin entry chute see below picture. Also your mechanism is missing the coin overflow chute to the cashbox, so you could make something.

This is the third chrome version I have now seen and wonder is original factory option, maybe the deluxe version as previously suggested on the site.

Last week i did get a aristocrat clubmaster with a beautiful color! This i have to paint for sure, should it be the best to give a hammertone blue? On the coinentry of the mechanism there someting to reset a stuck coin, the coinentry is split into two parts i don’t think it’s original. There is even a doorstop on top of the casting so it won’t damage when opening. There’s also the remains of foam in the inside of the machine just like in the earlier aristocrat i have. The machine misses the parts around the awardcard and the aristocrat name plate, does somebody knows where to get someting like that? For sure it has to be on it, it gives character.

Interesting colours…

The trim you’re talking about I assume is the wire mesh which was also on the Sheerline range of machines. I have seen people replace this with a larger mesh, which always looks odd, so one as close as possible to the original size would be best. Wire mesh can be found online or at good hardware stores and bend and cut to shape.

What is interesting is the lever on the top right, maybe an aftermarket coin reject !PUZZLED! never seen one, does it do anything

The lever is fascinating.
Does it have the cunning cash box? It stays open to accept money while in its compartment, but the moment you remove it it slams shut and locks.
Hammerite paint (not smooth) is correct.

Thanks for your replies treefrog/badpenny. I will post some pictures of it. I think they made it at a later moment maybe because the use of foreign coins? The cashbox is without the toppiece sadly. I didn’t mention yet that they added light in it with yellow tape on it to create the warm colour from it. As last i will show a pic of the doorstop, i think they put that one on so the beautifull colours don’t get damaged when opening the machine :HaHa:

You see loads missing, often intentionally. Another one turned up for sale on Facebook today missing mesh.

I think I have a spare sheet from a Sheerline somewhere.

Today the racemesh arrived and i had to give it a try. I was expecting the mesh to be finer but for the moment i think it’s ok. Any opinions against original? Greetings.

It will be painted sometime later tom. First i have a lot of painting in and outside the house. So again time will be scarce. But when this part arrived i had to try it out.
