Re: Brenco Wheel of Fortune challenge 1965 - kid vs machine

Post by chris roadhog »

My late brother worked the exact method out and few people could get it!
My best ever find was a big 8 player machine called Tote; 1 to 6 numbered horses, different colours, rotating on a large disc in the middle at eye level.
All you did was hold your coin over the number 1 slot, for example, and as the machine ran up it would click to the finish with the same opposite horse every time!
The red horse paid out when the blue passed the post on the click sound. You could do it anyway 'round with all horses and cover 2 slots when you got good.

Robert Brown, owner of Joyland watched me and a mate in action and just wanted to know how we did it. He didn’t chuck us out, but said thanks, and reported it to Cromptons I think?
They were quick to modify it with a free wheel device, but I found one many years later in Skeggy and it was original, so me and the X set about it only to get asked to leave!!
Madly enough, my other brother could predict most wins on the Brenco Rotor. My dad brought us up right!

Well in the '70s the Wheel of Fortune in Harrisons Amusements on Bognor Regis seafront had an error whereby whenever the needle went on Lose, it would always, every time go on to 6p. As the arrow was constantly in rotation, regardless if you played it or not, I would just sit and wait discretely for Lose to come then win 6p. The secret was to not go as far as emptying the machine to raise suspicion but to hit it a few times then walk away till later in the day when coin tube fuller and profit taken to owner in the coin overspill. This type of pattern watching I got quite adept at. My dad's Police social club I would play illegally underage the Peter Simper club slots whereby it would start pulling in certain potential winning combinations with constant hold lights coming up. Waited for punters to play on the lose streaks hen used to go home with dad carrying a whole bag of 5p winnings after watching out for jackpot phases. Happy days.

malcymal, I always look forward to hearing stories about the Wheel of Fortune, as I was the Wheel of Fortune king many years ago and still am as you can see from this latest video. This latest story has confused me somewhat. If you waited for it to land on LOST, then the DON''T PLAY light would be lit, thus not allowing a coin to be inserted in to the 6p entry. Once the pointer had stopped on something you could not insert a coin, so I need more details about this unusual winning system that you had found!

Rippyspennyarcade videos gone?

Post by pennymachines »

Plea to esteemed forum member rippyspennyarcade...
What has happened to all your youtube videos?
Visiting your youtube channel, I cannot find most of them. The few that remain are no longer embeddable, so the See it Operate forum and Museum is full of blanks. I'm hoping all is well and this is a temporary glitch, because I for one will miss them. !PRAY!!

Hi, I have just messaged Rob to see if he knows about this. Hope it can be fixed as a lot of work has gone into them.

I hope so too ... it will be devastating if lost ... I think I have watched every one of them and always look forward to the next.
It's a great archive of some wonderful machines and always love the enthusiasm that comes free with every video. :)

all the best

Certainly the most eagerly awaited videos in our hobby.
Am I right in remembering Rob had a bit of an issue with them not too long ago?
I hope it all gets sorted.
