I suspect on the crane MR PM does not answer the question, was it mechanical or electric. I could not see a motor from the pictures, but another colleague says it had one. I agree manual will always be preferred and not from an operator point……

I have to admit I prefer the look of the metal case versions, much great visual appeal irrespective of rarity, of course I would love either ❤️ ……was surprised the weight difference between the two was not as great as you would expect….170 versus 200 pounds.

If this one has a motor (can't see it in the picture), it's a bonus, as an optional extra which could easily by disengaged.

The catalogue contains a cut-and-paste description from the Museum.
The jib and claw of this all-mechanical, wooden-cased crane are manipulated using the hand wound crank and turning handle, offering the player a greater sense of control than the motorized models.

Out of interest they're infuriating to operate in an arcade setting when hand wound and not motorised, as they frequently get abandoned half way through the game play, much like magic machines and then jam up with the next player.

I will eat Mr PM’s hat and Treefrog's too if that is the case.

There were just 2 machines that had the ‘right’ to command a high price. The Bryan’s crane and the Quested Skill Win. Are they worth it? Time will tell because in the last few years, earlier machines prices have not commanded the prices that they once use to. It’s the same with cars. 1970s and '80s cars are more desirable than earlier models. I doubt they’ll depreciate though but I guess it depends on who wants one and whether they can afford it and how they value it. The proof is in the pudding or the hat for me.

As long as ‘new’ owners are happy with their purchases is all that really matters.

I did like the look of the Bryans crane. A bit pricey. But like others have said you might have to wait 10 years to get another chance of one. It is rare. The footballs looked ok ish... but the rest were... in my opinion mega prices. Wish I had kept my working Cascades to sell at them prices. I would have been more than happy. !!YIPPEE!!

Has anyone got a record of Spicers' catalogue estimates on the slot machines?

Mr PM, I’ve a copy of the catalogue, which estimates do you require?
I did view machines and the Bryan’s crane definitely had a motor at the back.
