I regularly visit a forum dedicated to canals and boats.
Yet another expensive hobby of mine (and considering I first got involved in it in 1966 it has competed equally with slots since then).

The forum has a resource I regularly use, and I imagine it also appears on other forums too. It's a feedback button called a greenie.
Hovering over it causes a table of symbols for you to choose. They range from a thumbs up/laughter/shock etc. enabling you to immediately feedback without posting. It sounds lazy when I describe it now, but sometimes it's like nodding in agreement during a conversation or saying "thanks for posting that" when you have nothing more to add, yet wish to acknowledge the poster.
Probably I'm the only one who regularly looks for it on other forums, but I'm used to it.
On the canal forum it leads into other issues like scoreboards and reputation markers. Some get competitive most don't.

I think it's an easy way to interact to someone's post without feeling the need to get chatty about it. Perhaps our very good friend who is known for his superb videos on the East Coast may have not felt so ignored or abandoned?

I simply raise it for the membership's awareness.

No expense has been spared (it cost a finger and a toe).

Mouse over (or click) the little grey smiley (bottom right of post) to select emoji.

Watling Gold Award if you love it (scores poster 2 points!),
Cherries if you like it (scores poster 1 point),
Lemon if you really hate it (scores poster -1).

Just a bit of fun...
