As Hooper's Automatics, Hooper's Automatic Supply Co. Ltd. and WH Hooper & Sons, proprietor Bill Hooper operated from Barnsbury Road, Islington from the early 1930s, relocating in 1935 to 146 Pentonville Road, Islington, and at the outbreak of WWII to Penton Arms, 34-35 Furnival Street, off Pentonville Road, and again in 1955 to 4 Springfield Terrace, Bounds Green, N11 (later 125 Bounds Green Road) in a three story building which served as shop, manufacturing/testing workshop and store. Early work was construction of halfpenny tivolis and Mills bandit conversions for British operation. Later products included a unique single reel bandit (Screen Stars), a range of simple (amusement only) upright bagatelles, an electric shocker, counter-top pinball and wall-mounted fortune teller. |
